I didn’t exactly set out to be a writer. My first paid “gig” came in 7th grade, writing journal assignments for a friend’s English class. From there I began craving essay exams. Multiple choice questions left me irritable and unsatisfied. My pulse quickened at the thought of research projects. Writing was clearly on my horizon.

An academic faux pas—majoring in electrical engineering—gave me a strong foundation in sciences, something I still love. Eventually, I corrected my course and graduated with a master of arts from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. For me, the icing on the cake was when a publisher read my thesis, liked what he saw and published my first book.

Since then, I’ve worked with clients such as Hewlett Packard, Western Union, Sybase, Kiewit Corporation and American Express, to name just a few. Nine days out of 10, I can’t wait to get to work because every day is different. Granted, I may work on the same type of projects for the same clients, but never do two projects follow the same path.
